3 Signs Your Home Needs an Electrical Fix

Electrical fires are a scary thought, but with the right care, they are entirely preventable. An electrical inspection is key, but another sure way to stop an issue before it gets too far is by spotting the little signs. So if you are wondering if your home is in need of an electrical fix, here are three signs to look out for:                                  electrical failure in power outlet isolated

1. Constant Extension Cords

Extension cords should not be a staple in your home. Extension cords are an occasional or random fix, and in the right house, with enough power, you will not need them.

Leaving extension cords for too long can lead to damage or fire, so if you are in need of some extra outlets, call your local electrician to install them.

2. Dimming or Flickering Issues

If you are noticing that your lights are dimming or flickering on their own, it’s most likely a problem with your wiring. Your lamps don’t draw a ton of power, so if you are noticing a constant flicker, something on that circuit is hogging up most the power.

To fix the issue, you can move the appliance or the lights to a different circuit to get the best power possible.

3. Hot and Smelly

Let’s face it, a lasting smell from your electric is never a good sign — especially from your outlets. When you notice an outlet giving off an odor, stop using that outlet immediately and discontinue use until you can get it thoroughly inspected.

A hot electrical outlet is something you won’t want to ignore. It could be what’s plugged in; if it is, the outlet should cool off once the appliance is unplugged. If it remains hot — it’s most likely lousy wiring that needs to be looked at.
